Our Sunday Afternoon

This morning after church I took Raegan to Walmart with me to pick up some various odds and ends. I've been meaning for weeks now to buy her some paint, because we have yet to do any painting at home. (She has gotten to a few times at daycare, so that's something at least!) I wasn't impressed with the one type of finger paint that Walmart offered (or perhaps I should say I wasn't impressed with the price!) so I'm going to hunt down my homemade finger paint recipe at work this week. In the meantime, I bought watercolors.

Raegan started hounding me about painting as soon as we got home, but I was mean!mommeeee! and told her she had to wait until after her nap. Smart girly is smart, because she started hounding me about painting again the second she was done with snack. I didn't get any pictures of her painting (which she absolutely adored every second of) because I didn't think to grab the camera beforehand, and I was not about to leave her alone with paint. However, here is the finished result:

Masterpiece deserving of a frame!

After painting, Raegan wanted to do playdough for awhile, and then color with crayons. (Actually, she wanted to paint again, but I said once was enough for today.) So after our Afternoon of Art, we went out in the backyard to play. It was a beautiful afternoon to be outside!

I let Raegan play in her water table for awhile, because it wasn't too terribly chilly out.

I love when she makes thoughtful faces at me!

Radar discovered a squirrel on the side of the tree and thought he was going to panther stalk it. It was really funny to watch him slink across the backyard.

When I told Raegan that Radar was trying to eat a squirrel, she got super concerned and went running over to tell him no. :)

A little pat for the disappointed kitty.

Jerk

My cat is a jerk and other unpleasant names that I probably shouldn't say outloud. :) Radar has always enjoyed sleeping in our bathroom. I assume that he likes it because the tiles are cold and it's dark and quiet in there. This week he's taken to sleeping either on the closed toilet lid or on top of the counter. I don't mind if he sleeps on the toilet, but the counter I do. Actually, ever since we went to Branson, he's kind of been acting like he owns the place. I've caught him sleeping on top of our coffee table a few times, which is something he's never done in the 6+ years we've had him. Good things he's so handsome and loveable.

Notice how he didn't even wake up when I turned on the light, saw him, went to go get my camera, and took a picture. He sure did wake up when I tossed his fat butt on the floor! Jerk.

Kitty!

We have such a strange cat. Sometimes we'll walk into a room and find Radar looking like this:

At which point, I'll go tell my husband that we have a big problem because we have a dead cat in the other room. lol

I wouldn't say that he LOVES Raegan, per se, but he does a pretty good job of tolerating her.

And finally, here's a video showing how much Raegan loves to torture loves Radar. Excuse my unmade bed. It was Saturday morning, after all! :)

Update

What a busy week it has been! It's that time of year when work is definitely a little overwhelming as we gear up for parent teacher conferences. I haven't had very much energy left for blogging by the time the night is over. Also, I've been battling a headache since Wednesday (I think due to all the time I'm spending in front of the computer at work) so I've basically just been vegging out and going to bed semi-early.

Raegan has taken a few more steps since Monday, but she's a smart girl and very aware that crawling gets her where she wants to be a lot faster still. There have been several times that she has let go of what she's been holding onto, taken a step or two, then dropped down sloooowly to the ground to take off crawling. When she gets in a couple steps she starts giggling like crazy, like she's saying, "Holy crap, holy crap, I'm doing this." She's getting a lot better at standing on her own, because I see her standing up against furniture without holding onto it, and standing alone for a couple seconds without dropping.

Raegan has gotten into a bad habit of waking up around 4:00 every morning this week. She's none too pleased when I change her diaper and put her back in her crib, but we're not going backwards to nursing in the middle of the night again. Hopefully she'll break this soon and we can go back to full nights of sleep.

Today while her and I were coming home from the store I had to pull over because she had pulled one arm completely out of her carseat strap. I put her all back together then got back in and took off. Raegan assumed I was letting her out, and she was none too pleased with me. She would say, "Mama" then growl (and not her growl to be funny - her angry growl!) She was making it pretty clear what she thought of me! lol

Zane is doing a great job of getting himself up and moving every morning before school. He doesn't poke around hardly at all anymore, which is good, because now that I have to get myself and Raegan both ready I don't have time to prod him anymore. I guess he makes up for it by poking around when it comes time to do his homework after school! And he may not be a fan of practicing his trumpet, but he sure is getting really good at it. Next month we start doing fundraisers for his high school field trip to Disney World (assuming he stays in band that long). The director said the trip is very pricey and even 6th graders should think about participating in fundraisers, so we'll be selling cookie dough, etc. next month.

I have only a few pictures to share. See above where I talk about being so busy. :)

Did I mention that Raegan is a big girl facing forward now?

She loves watermelon!

My belly!

If we leave water in Raegan's water table, Radar will drink out of it. (The picture is a little fuzzy because Luke had to take it through the screen window. Radar runs off if you open the back door like it's this big awful thing he's doing!)

Poor kitty!

You may remember when I posted a few months back about how much Raegan loooooooves Radar. Raegan has really shown us what a GOOD cat Radar is. He puts up with so much from her, and very rarely does anything about it. The few times that he has batted at her or bit at her, he never uses his claws and barely touches her with his tetth. I'm probably a bad pet owner because I allowed this abuse to go on so I could get it on video, but oh well. It's entertaining! :)

Zane's camera

Back in May we got Zane this cheap little digital camera for his "graduation" from 5th grade. He was always taking pictures with his phone, so we figured that would be a good gift for him. Here's a couple of the pictures he has taken this summer:

These are a couple drawings that Zane made on a note I left him one morning while Raegan and I were out and about and he was still sleeping. He's a pretty good artist, I think!

The Iron Man that Luke and I painted on Zane's wall several years ago. His whole room has a Marvel Superhero theme.

She looks like a little girl! Nooooooo!

You would not believe how many times we find a dead cat in our bathroom. :)

Sometimes the flash is too bright, but you can't ask for much from a cheap camera. Really, Zane does a pretty good job of taking pictures. He's getting a lot better at centering them, for sure.

Raegan + Radar = True Luv

So I mentioned in this post a couple months ago how much our cat Radar loves Zane. Turns out Raegan is crazy in love with Radar. Unfortuneately, Radar does not return the sentiment. Raegan's getting better at petting him without pulling hair, but she is 10 months old after all. :)

Well, hello there kitteh!
What's this?! A tail! You are AMAZING!
Note that Radar is slowly trying to slink away into the bathroom....

No come back! IloveyouIloveyouIloveyou! We can be friends!!!!!

Radar

Before I upload a couple pictures from today, I wanted to post this picture first. This is our cat Radar grooming Zane before bed. I probably shouldn't say "our" cat, rather Zane's. Luke and Zane found him 4 years ago in January when he hopped over the fence into our backyard in Manhattan. He hung around (probably because we fed him) and we slowly started letting him inside. When we moved to Salina that September, we took him with us. We kept him inside only the first month (which just about drove Radar - and us! - crazy) because we were worried he might run off.
We lucked out because he did not, and we have this wonderful indoor/outdoor cat. He's very dog-like, in that he comes when you call him and he much prefers to be around humans. He does get his moments when he *has* to go outside to "prowl" but he also loves being around his humans. Especially Zane. Many nights you will see Radar stalking down the hallway to Zane's room about a half hour before Zane goes to bed. If Zane goes to bed with wet hair Radar will "groom" him, as you can see in the picture above. :)
